Seniors Festival a hit at the Baw Baw Arts Alliance

News

For many people who fit into the category of senior, the free creative art offerings from the Baw Baw Arts Alliance (BBAA) during the recent Seniors Festival, were a highlight.

Charcoal drawing at the VRI Hall in Warragul was the first activity offered and many learned new skills because everyone, both experienced and those less so, were catered for.

Other creative offerings covered creating small books, watercolour, mixed media, gelliprinting and wet felting.

All of these took place under the guidance of BBAA artists at no cost to the participants.

The beauty of this not for profit organisation is that it also welcomes everyone throughout the year to participate in the weekly art offerings at the VRI Hall and Artspaces in the former Trafalgar Railway Station.

Following the Seniors’ week of creative activities, one of the more recent ventures by the Arts Alliance is the open invitation to members of the public to participate in free art activities at the VRI Hall in Queen Street, Warragul, on the third Saturday morning of each month.

Coming up on Saturday, 21 November from 9:30am to 1:00pm is a watercolour workshop.

All materials are supplied and participants will experience the joy of painting under expert guidance with no cost to them.

Not to be missed at the Station Gallery during the month of November are two interesting exhibitions.

Julie Wickham has called her beautiful paintings For the Love of Nature.

These will hang in the section known as On the Wall and you are sure to be captivated by her exquisite brushwork.

In the main gallery members of the BBAA Tuesday fibre and fabric group are exhibiting for the first time.

Formed less than two years ago this group meets every Tuesday at the VRI Hall and has pursued a wide range of processes and new skills to bring together a thoughtful and challenging display called Re-inspired.

Members have cyanotype works, photos printed on fabric, paper mixed with fabric, recycled objects, landscapes created from crumpled fabric and paper.

The exhibition calls for a re-defining of the words fibre and fabric.

Join the Artists at the official opening at 2pm on Saturday, 7 November at the Station Gallery in Yarragon.
