Council is calling for local community groups to apply for Baw Baw Shire Council’s Community Project Grants Program. Applications opened on February 2 and locals will have until February 26 to submit them.
Successful groups will be announced in May, with Grants of up to $5,000 available. Non-profit groups and organisations that benefit the local community are eligible. The program supports the delivery of community events, projects, programs, environmental initiatives and equipment purchases.
Applications by Appointment are now available and are a mandatory step in applying for a grant. Applications by Appointment provide community groups the opportunity to meet with Council to discuss their project idea to ensure it aligns with the grant guidelines.
The process also provides potential applicants with guidance on what to include in their application and clarity about the supporting documents, which must be submitted, reducing the likelihood of applications being incomplete or ineligible for assessment.
In the last Community Projects grant round, 36 groups were provisionally offered a share in more than $140,000 to deliver projects, purchase equipment and run events in Baw Baw.
Last year, Trafalgar based groups like The Trafalgar Bowls Club, Trafalgar Probus Club and the Holden Museum all received funding. For the Probus Club, the grant meant they were able to purchase a new MacBook to help with the monthly PowerPoint presentations where club members or guest speakers can share their knowledge and experiences. While the Bowls Club used its grant money to purchase a battery-operated greens sweeper which helps with greens maintenance.
Baw Baw Shire Mayor Cr Kate Wilson said this was an integral program to support local community groups across the Shire and she hoped to see many applications.
“The Community Project Grants are just one way in which Council backs our local community groups,” she said.
“They are crucial to the longevity of our community groups, providing much needed funds to support their operations, make purchases and bolster resources.”
“I would encourage group members to make an Application by Appointment, as these help to strengthen your application and provide clarity on your project.”
